Indeed, RITES Limited, India's leading engineering consultancy and project management firm, has been awarded a contract of Rs 297.67 crore by the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the development of Integrated Check Post (ICP) infrastructure, which is a critical infrastructure project meant to be developed into a facilitation system for cross-border movement of goods and passengers.
Modern Integrated Check Posts provide their clients with more streamlined facilities within a single infrastructure for customs, immigration, and security operations. They are of great import when it comes to improving trade efficiency, increasing domestic border security, and promoting closer economic and cultural ties with the neighboring countries. The new ICP will be brought in for operationalization on the ground to enable the free, quick and safe movement of people and things at the border while preventing delays and congestion.
Under the contract, RITES is expected to leverage its intelligence in the area of infrastructure development and project execution by provision of complete services- design, construction, and management-for the project. This is in line with the continuous efforts by the Indian government to modernize border infrastructure and bring benefits to the economy by a well-integrated trade movement across borders at this point.
This contract further reinforces RITES' reputation as a reliable partner for the high-impact infrastructure projects. More so, it underlines the strategic significance of ICPs in the context of regional connectivity and trade integration. The new facility is expected to contribute significantly to border efficiency and to India's vision of high-class international border infrastructure once operational.
